For Man With Disability, Fire Station Is Home
At age 13, Tony Tumminello befriended the men at his local firehouse. Almost 60 years later, the man with intellectual disability still spends nearly every day there.
A fixture at Fire Station One in Lansing, Mich. since 1953, Tumminello eats all his meals and spends nearly every waking minute at the station, save for the time he works at a flower market.
For the firemen, Tumminello is like family. They joke with him like a brother, but also care for him, helping the aging man with everything from laundry to bathing.

Tumminello says he can’t imagine life without the firemen, but it’s not likely that he’ll ever have to.
“Tony has got a place forever,” the battalion chief told CBS News.
