New episodes of a television comedy starring an actress with autism are on the way.

The cable network Freeform, which caters to teens and young adults, said it will kick off a second season of “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” in April.

The half-hour show centers on 20-something Nicholas who finds himself caring for his two teenage half-sisters after the death of their father.

Kayla Cromer has autism herself and plays Nicholas’ sister Matilda who has the developmental disability.

Cromer has been open about her diagnosis and has spoken out about the importance of people with disabilities being cast in television roles.

The new season will find Matilda “rethinking her life goals” and the show will welcome “new eccentric friends, unexpected hookups and a lot more bugs,” Freeform said.

“Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” will return with two episodes April 8 at 10 p.m. ET. After that, the show will air new episodes on Thursdays at 10:30 p.m. ET.
