“Keep the Change” features a cast of non-professional actors with autism who are part of the Adaptations Group at the Jewish Community Center of Manhattan.
In announcing the award, jurors at the Tribeca Film Festival described the 93-minute movie as a “heartwarming, hilarious and consistently surprising reinvention of the New York romantic comedy, which opens a door to a world of vibrant characters not commonly seen on film.”
Screenings at Tribeca this month marked the film’s debut.
In addition to the win for best narrative feature, Rachel Israel was also named best new narrative director for “Keep the Change.”
“This filmmaker created a world full of vibrant characters often under-represented in cinema. It is a unique, yet universal love story told in a way we’ve never seen,” the jurors said.
