Zappos is expanding a first-of-its-kind program designed to make it easier for people with special needs to buy shoes.

The online retailer said it is growing its so-called Single and Different Size Shoes Program due to “overwhelming customer demand.”

The program, which debuted in July as a pilot, allows customers to buy just one shoe or purchase a pair of shoes that includes two different sizes. It is part of Zappos Adaptive, a broader effort that launched in 2017 to offer a collection of clothing and footwear to meet the needs of people with various disabilities.

Zappos said it has seen searches for “single shoes” balloon on its website since the new program began over the summer with styles from Nike, BILLY Footwear, Converse, Stride Rite, PLAE, New Balance and others.

Accordingly, the program offerings have grown by 86%, the company said, and now also include shoes from Merrell, Brooks, Dansko, Vans, Friendly Shoes and UGG.

Single shoes are available in toddler through adult sizes and at a range of widths.
